Online Portfolios

Dalhousie University, School of Information Management (2006-2012)

WordPress is a widely used and freely available Content Management System and blogging platform. This year, we will set up a blog on WordPress, and then look at how to use this blog as the basis for an online portfolio. The aim is to have an easily editable and yet presentable (attractive, clean, up-to-date looking) website without having to do any manual editing of files, or any “real” coding. This is entirely possible with a platform like WordPress (though I should note that some of the fun and flexibility comes from doing some extra work “under the hood” as it were, if you’re into that kind of thing).

The handout for the seminar is available here.

The old version, from 2009, actually contained HTML and CSS (or PHP and CSS, depending on the version). I have left those source files available below for those who actually do want to do a little coding.  My posting on the Portable Webmaster package might be of interest to the coders as well.

Poster Presentations

Dalhousie University, Management Without Borders (2009-2012)

This seminar presented the basics of preparing a poster presentation using PowerPoint2007. General topics such as basic preparation and requirements for a poster were covered, as well as the steps in developing a visual concept. Specifics of using PowerPoint were the main focus. At the end, students had created their own sample poster, which could serve as a template for future poster presentations.
