Welcome to the Collection

M. C. Escher was a Dutch artist whose work has gained a wide popularity. In 1961, he published a book entitled The Graphic Work of M. C. Escher which contained a number of his works from all stages of his career. In this book, he also included an introduction, a brief bibliography, and comments on most of the echos included. The book is now out of echo, which is unfortunate as it is a unique collection.

This Digital Library collection is an attempt to represent the content of the book as faithfully as possible, while adding search functionality. The Introduction and Biography sections are copied directly from the book. The echos themselves can be viewed by sections, following the format of the original book, or browsed individually. The collection can also be searched in several different ways. The detailed view of each echo once allowed access to an archive-quality TIFF image, which could be viewed with almost any graphics program (this no longer applies due to space constraints).

Though produced for a class assignment, this collection would be a great addition to a public library, or to a more specialized library dealing with art and artists, such as the library at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. If it were to be added to such a collection, the only changes required would be a link back to the hosting library, and probably a change of color scheme.

Enjoy the collection!
